1973 Pontiac Trans Am "Hammerhead" by Horizon Motorsports

The "Hammerhead" is a 1973 Pontiac Trans Am created by Russell and Cavan Cameron, a father-son duo from Horizon Motorsports. This extraordinary build was driven by Cavan’s high school internship, allowing him to learn from his father's extensive experience in IndyCar racing. The project features a tube-frame chassis and is powered by a 2000hp, twin-turbo LSR engine from Late Model Engines, coupled with a 2001 IndyCar drivetrain. Notably, the engine was pushed 28 inches aft, and the seats were moved eight inches back to optimize weight distribution. To realize their vision, they extensively used components from Vibrant Performance, with additional support from 32 sponsors including Garrett and Sparco. Cavan spearheaded the design with custom aero work validated by Verus Engineering. The build, which debuted at SEMA 2023, showcases their innovative approach, setting new standards in the time attack racing domain. Both father and son emphasize the learning and relationship fostered throughout the build, aiming to test "Hammerhead" on circuits soon.
